RC Signage Foundations

Noise & Dust Control • Live Operational Railway • Safe Emergency Access

THE WORK

The scope of work for the MTR ONSIP Programme involved the installation of new reinforced concrete foundations to support station information signage across all the East Stations from Shenfield to Maryland. The project encompassed the following tasks:

THE PROJECT

Excavation and Survey Works for Foundation Bases
The first phase of the project involved conducting excavation and survey works to prepare the foundation bases for the new signage. This included assessing the soil conditions, determining the appropriate depth and dimensions for the foundations, and ensuring the stability of the installation area.

Installation of New RC Foundation Bases
Once the excavation and survey works were completed, the installation of the reinforced concrete (RC) foundation bases was carried out. The foundations were constructed to support the weight and ensure the stability of the station information signage. This phase involved precise positioning and anchoring of the foundations to ensure durability and longevity.

Platform Resurfacing
As part of the project, the platform areas surrounding the new foundation bases were resurfaced. This step aimed to provide a smooth and uniform surface, enhancing the aesthetics and usability of the station platforms.

CHALLENGES

During the implementation of the project, several challenges were encountered. However, effective management strategies were put in place to overcome these challenges:

Noise and Dust Control
To mitigate the impact of noise and dust on neighbouring properties and the surrounding environment, sound barriers and dust extraction systems were employed. This ensured that noise pollution was minimised, especially during non-operational hours when some of the works had to be conducted.

Impact on Live Operational Railway
Working within a live operational railway environment posed a significant challenge. To address this, the project team carefully coordinated with the railway authorities and scheduled pre-planned night and weekend possessions of the line. These possessions allowed for safe installation activities and material deliveries without disrupting regular train operations. The scope of work for the MTR ONSIP Programme involved the installation of new reinforced concrete foundations to support station information signage across all the East Stations from Shenfield to Maryland. The project encompassed the following tasks: 1. 2. 3. Challenges and

Safe Emergency Access Routes
Ensuring the safety of passengers and maintaining clear emergency access routes throughout the works was a priority. The project team meticulously planned the installation process in stages to ensure that the platforms remained accessible in case of emergencies. This approach minimised any potential risks and ensured the continued safe usage of the platforms for passengers and station staff.

Success & Contribution
Through effective project management and the implementation of appropriate strategies, the installation of new station information signage across the East Stations from Shenfield to Maryland was successfully completed. The careful management of noise and dust, coordination with the live operational railway, and prioritisation of safe emergency access routes contributed to the overall success of the project. The new reinforced concrete foundations and platform resurfacing have enhanced the functionality and appearance of the stations, providing improved information for passengers and contributing to a more efficient railway system.
