West Drayton Stationsafe car park area & Anti-Trespass System
Challenges: Noise & Dust Control • Live Operational Railway • Emergency Access Routes
THE WORK
The purpose of this particular project was to create a safe car park area outside the station and enhance security by acting as an Anti-Trespass System to deter fare evaders from crossing the live operational railway track, as part of the MTR ONSIP Programme.
ACTIVITIES
The project encompassed the following tasks:
Installation of new RC foundation bases for the new gates
This involved constructing reinforced concrete (RC) foundation bases to provide a stable and secure support for the gates.
Installation of new gate and palisade fencing
The primary objective was to install a new palisade fencing system, including gates, around the designated car park area. This fencing system would serve as a physical barrier to prevent unauthorised access and trespassing.
Installation of new earthing
To ensure the safety and functionality of the fencing system, proper earthing measures were implemented to protect against electrical hazards.
CHALLENGES
Noise and dust control
As the works needed to be completed during non-operational hours, measures were taken to control noise and dust. Sound barriers were erected to minimise noise pollution for neighbouring residents. Additionally, dust extraction systems were used to prevent dust from affecting the surrounding environment.
Impact on the live operational railway
The project required coordination with the railway authorities to ensure minimal disruption to the live operational railway. Installation and material deliveries were scheduled during pre-planned night and weekend possessions of the line, reducing the impact on regular train services.
Maintaining safe emergency access routes
To ensure the safety of passengers and staff, clear and safe emergency access routes between the pedestrian access points and the station had to be maintained throughout the project. The installation process was carefully planned in stages, allowing the platforms to remain accessible in case of emergencies.
The installation of the palisade fencing system and gates at West Drayton Station presented several challenges that were successfully managed. The project addressed the need for improved security and safety, serving as an Anti-Trespass System and creating a secure car park area. Effective noise and dust control measures were implemented, and careful coordination with the railway authorities ensured minimal disruption to the live operational railway. Furthermore, maintaining safe emergency access routes throughout the works demonstrated a commitment to passenger and staff safety.
